Frequently Asked QUESTIONS
Why do you have an attendence policy?
Class attendance is extremely important to succeed my courses. Attendance is mandatory, meaning that you are expected to attend each class period. However, the professor understands that there will be times when personal issues are unavoidable and take priority. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to obtain missed material from your peers, so establish contact with other students in the class immediately. If for any reason you are absence more then the course allows during the course of the semester, the student will receive a negative adjustment of one full letter grade.Attendance will be taken on random days and will be influenced by the “prisoner’s dilemma” game theory approach. This means that I am much more likely to take attendance when there are fewer students in attendance, and much less likely to take attendance if all students are present. Classes will start on time and you are expected to be at your seat at the beginning of class. You are in attendance when your name is called. If you are not in your seat when attendance is taken, you will not be given attendance for that day. If you need to leave class early, which I don’t recommend, you are required to notify me at the beginning of class. Failure to do so will result in the loss of attendance for that day.
How do you feel about cheating?
Homework is expected to be completed individually. I have a zero tolerance policy on cheating. This includes giving your completed assignments to other members of the course. You should also be weary about leaving completed assignments on campus computers, where other students can have access to them and turn them in.How do I get an A in your class?
Getting an “A” in one of my courses is quite simple. Come to class prepared, participate and do your work. For each hour of class you should spend at least 2 hours out of class preparing for class and completing assignments. Most of my courses are weighted heavily outside of the classroom. I want you to actually learn the material and apply it to your lives. If for some reason you are not doing well, you should plan on seeing me during office hours. I can arrange for a tutor to help you or go over the material again. However, I do not repeat lectures for those that have missed class. Make arrangements ahead of time for one of your fellow students to take good notes and see me for any material I might have passed out.
